What sound do I hear when I back pedal or push my bike backwards?

A clicking sound can be heard when you push a bike with the 8-speed coaster brake hub backwards. This occurs only in the 5th and higher gears. Same sound can be heard when you are back pedaling the 8-speed hub without coaster brake (Rollerbrake or V-brake)

This sound is caused by the clutch that is engage to the planetgear carrier. During a backwards movement of the driver, (pushing bike backwards, or back pedaling) the clutch disengaged and engaged immediately again, which causes this sound.

(Note: the animation is just an impression, actual shapes and dimensions can differ from reality.)
