Why do I sometimes hear a small clicking sound from the Nexus 8 speed internal hub?
This small clicking sound is caused by a pawl that is not engaging in a certain gear.
For your safety we designed our hubs so, that there is no free turning while shifting between two gears. (Even when the adjustment of the hub is not 100% correct)
This means that the pawl of the lower gear is still availble in case that the higher gear is not engaging yet.
On some hubs you can hear this pawl making a small clicking sound.

This is not a nonconformance but due to the safety design of our hubs.

In the animation of an 8-speed hub, you can see which pawl is engaging (orange circel) and which one is free turning (green circle).
