What causes the variation in force to extract a crank from the BB?
To control the chainline on a square tapered Bottom Bracket (BB) interface, Shimano puts on some BB axles a "Chain Line Stabiliser".
This stopper ring, that is pressed on the BB axle, prevents your cranks being pulled further on the axle each time you install them.

While extracting the crank from a BB with a chain line stabiliser, you may notice that you sometimes need less force to extract it, compared to a BB without this stopper.

This is a normal situation because the crank is now also fixed between this stopper and the crankarm fixing bolt and not only on the tapering. Even when you can extract the crank without any force, it causes no problem for function or durability.
